Legislation for Term Time Holidays

The rules regarding pupils taking holidays during term time are clear in that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

You therefore need to consider any such requests carefully and detail the ‘exceptional circumstances’ should you decide to submit a request.  Request for Planned Absence Forms are available from the school or you can download and print the form below; you must return the completed form to school and the headteacher will determine whether, under these new rules, she is able to authorise the absence.  

Please ensure any request for planned absence is submitted as far in advance as possible.

Attendance Penalty Notice Information

• A fixed penalty notice may be issued for unauthorised absence:

• £80 per parent, per child if paid within 21 days
• £160 if paid within 28 days
• Non-payment can lead to prosecution, with fines up to £2,500 or up to 3 months in prison.
• Penalty notices are usually issued after 10 unauthorised sessions (5 school days) within a 10-week period.
