Children’s Bladder and Bowel Team – Supporting Health, Confidence and Comfort
Bladder and bowel difficulties are more common than many people realise, and they can have a big impact on a child’s health, confidence, and everyday life. The Children’s Bladder and Bowel Team in Herefordshire provides specialist support to help children and young people manage these issues with dignity and care.
What Does the Team Do?
The team offers expert advice, assessments, and practical support for a range of needs:
Assessment and Advice
Reviews your child’s bladder and bowel health
Offers guidance on toileting routines, fluid intake, and healthy habits
Support with Specific Conditions
Daytime wetting and bedwetting (enuresis)
Constipation, soiling, or stool withholding
Toilet training for children with additional needs
Support for children with complex medical needs (e.g. catheterisation, stoma care)
Care Plans and Training
Creates individualised care plans tailored to your child
Works with school/college staff to ensure your child’s needs are understood and supported
Provides training for parents and carers where needed
Specialist Equipment and Continence Products
Advises on continence aids (pads, commodes, mattress protection)
Helps families access continence product supplies if eligible

How to Access the Service
Children and young people are usually referred by a:
GP
Paediatrician
Health visitor
School nurse
In some cases, families may be able to self-refer, check with your GP or School Nursing Team.
