The Child Development Centre (CDC) in Hereford provides specialist assessment, diagnosis, and support for children and young people with developmental needs, disabilities, or additional health concerns. It is part of Wye Valley NHS Trust and works closely with families, education settings, and multi‑agency professionals to ensure the right support is provided at the right time.
What the Child Development Centre Does
Developmental Assessments & Diagnosis
The CDC supports children with a wide range of developmental and neurodevelopmental needs, offering:
- Developmental assessments
- Medical and specialist consultations
- Support for children with disabilities
- Liaison with community and specialist services
Multi‑Disciplinary Team Working
The CDC team includes professionals who work together to provide joined‑up care. This can include:

- Therapists and specialist teachers (via relevant NHS and council teams)
The Children’s Hearing Centre is also located within the Child Development Centre building, providing newborn hearing screening, hearing assessments, and hearing‑aid provision for children up to 16.
Support for Children with SEND
The Centre plays a key role in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by:
- Working closely with local schools, special schools, and early years settings
- Providing information and advice for families navigating SEND pathways
