CAMHS – Supporting Children and Young People’s Mental Health
The Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) supports children and young people who are experiencing difficulties with their emotional, behavioural, or mental health. The team works with families, schools, colleges and professionals to assess needs and provide the right support or treatment.
What CAMHS Can Help With
- CAMHS supports children and young people (up to age 18) with:
- Anxiety, panic, or phobias
- Low mood or depression
- Obsessive or repetitive behaviours (OCD)
- Eating difficulties
- Self-harm or thoughts of suicide
- Behavioural or emotional difficulties affecting family or school life
- Neurodevelopmental concerns (e.g. ADHD or autism) where mental health is also affected
- Trauma or difficulties with relationships
What CAMHS Offers
- Assessment – understanding your child’s mental health and how it affects daily life
- Therapy and interventions – including talking therapies, family work, or group sessions
- Specialist support – for complex needs, including psychiatric assessment or medication if needed
- Advice and guidance – for parents, carers, and schools to support the child day to day
- Crisis support – urgent help when a child or young person is at risk of harm
