Disability Bus Pass
Disabled Person’s Bus Pass – Free Bus Travel for Eligible Residents
The Disabled Person’s Bus Pass helps people with long-term disabilities travel more easily and independently. If eligible, Herefordshire residents can get free travel on local buses, making it easier to get to school, college, work, or leisure activities.
Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible if you:
Live in Herefordshire
Are aged 5 or older
Have a permanent disability or one expected to last at least 12 months
Meet one of the official disability categories set by the Department for Transport, including:
Blind or partially sighted
Severely deaf or without speech
Significant difficulty walking or loss of use of both arms
Learning disability (as defined by the Transport Act 2000)
Refused a driving licence on medical grounds
Hold a Blue Badge (issued after April 2012)
What the Pass Offers
Free travel on local bus services across Herefordshire—and often throughout England
Valid weekdays from 8:30am to 11:00pm, and all day on weekends and bank holidays
If you cannot travel alone due to your disability, you can apply for a Companion Pass so someone can travel with you
How to Apply
You’ll need:
Proof of disability (e.g. medical letters, PIP/DLA award, Blue Badge)
Proof of identity and address
A passport-style photo
You can apply:
Online via the Herefordshire Council website
In person at the Hereford Customer Service Centre if you need help completing the form
Things to Know
The pass must be renewed when it expires. Permanent disabilities may qualify for long-term passes; temporary conditions may get a temporary pass.
A Companion Pass allows someone to travel free only when accompanying the pass-holder.
Companion travel is free only if the journey starts in Herefordshire.
Make sure your evidence clearly matches one of the accepted disability categories—this can help speed up the application.
