Housing FAQ for Families of Children & Young People with SEND

What if my child needs an adapted home?
Apply through HomePoint and note your need for an adapted property. You may also qualify for a Disabled Facilities Grant. An OT assessment will help identify what’s needed.

What help is available to adapt our current home?

  • DFGs for major adaptations

  • You at Home for smaller jobs (grab rails, ramps)

  • Equipment like hoists or mobility aids via OT assessment

How do I apply for social housing?
Register with Herefordshire HomePoint. You’ll be placed in a priority band and can bid on suitable homes.

How long will I have to wait?
It depends on:

  • Your priority band

  • Type of property needed (adapted homes may be limited)

  • Location preferences

What if I’m at risk of homelessness?
Contact the Housing Solutions Team immediately. They can help prevent homelessness and support you in finding safe accommodation.

My young person is becoming an adult – what housing options are there?
Supported housing options include:

  • Shared living with on-site staff

  • Floating support for independent living

  • Specialist placements for higher needs
Contact the Young Adults Team at Herefordshire Council for guidance.
