Herefordshire School Nursing Team – Supporting Health and Wellbeing in School
The School Nursing Team works with children, young people, and families to support health and wellbeing from school entry up to age 19. They are part of the NHS services in Herefordshire and work closely with schools and colleges to make sure pupils get the right support.
What the School Nursing Team Can Help With
School nurses offer advice, support, and practical help with a wide range of health and wellbeing topics, including:
Physical health – growth, healthy eating, weight management, puberty
Emotional wellbeing – worries, anxiety, low mood, building resilience
Medical conditions in school – asthma, epilepsy, allergies, and more
Sexual health and relationships – confidential advice for older pupils
Healthy lifestyles – sleep routines, dental health, physical activity
Safeguarding – making sure children are safe and supported
They also work with school staff to support pupils with additional health needs and help create individual health care plans.
How the Team Works with Schools
Offers drop-in sessions or appointments for pupils needing confidential advice
Works with teachers, SENDCos, and pastoral staff to support pupils’ health needs
Helps develop and review health care plans for children with medical conditions
Delivers health promotion programmes to encourage positive lifestyle choices
