Herefordshire SEN Team 

The Herefordshire Special Educational Needs (SEN) Team is part of Herefordshire Council’s support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Their role is to ensure that families receive the right help at the right time, especially when going through statutory SEN processes such as Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNAs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

What the Herefordshire SEN Team Does

The SEN Team offers support throughout key stages of the statutory SEND process:

1. Support With Statutory Assessment (EHCNA)

The SEN Team can:

• Answer questions about the assessment process.
• Guide you through what evidence is needed and what to expect.
• Communicate with you during each stage of the assessment.

2. Support With Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

If your child already has an EHCP, the team can help with:

• Annual reviews.
• Requests for amendments.
• Changes to provision, placement, or needs.
• Linking with schools, health services, and social care where required.

3. Contact With the Right Part of the SEN Service

The Council separates roles into Assessment, Review, and Assistants Teams, so depending on your query the appropriate staff will support you.

When to Contact the SEN Team

You may wish to contact the SEN Team if:

• You are considering requesting an EHC Needs Assessment.
• Your child’s needs have changed, and you feel their provision no longer meets their needs.
• You have questions about an existing EHCP.
• You need clarification on decisions, processes, or timescales.

SEN Assessment Team contact details

Contact the SEN Team for all enquiries prior to an EHC plan, including top-up funding. Requests for assessment and finalising the first EHCP is completed by this team. If a child or young person with an EHCP moves into Herefordshire, this will also be dealt with by the assessment team.
